Klimontów district in my photos

Klimontów - the village originally called Klimuntów was founded probably in the 13th century in the Zagórski estate by Klemens (Klimunt) from Ruszcza, later the castellan of Kraków (in 1241 he died in a battle with the Tatars). The oldest document that credibly confirms its existence dates back to 1361. Otton from Pilcza (Pilica) purchased the village then from Marek of Goszyce.
The next owners of Klimontów were: Piotr Szafraniec, Wisław and Piotr from Mysłowice, Jaroccy, Broniowscy, Gosławscy, Mieroszewscy, Siemieńscy, Gustaw von Kramsta (from 1864), the Society of Mines and Sosnowiec Metallurgical Works. The village was based on German law. Three colonies belonged to it: Browar, Rabka and Skotnica. It had a farm, a distillery, a brewery and a smithy.
In the mid-nineteenth century, mining industry began to emerge here. From 1856, the "Jacek" iron ore mine was open for a short time. In the years 1904-1908 a hard coal mine was built, which was initially part of the "Niwka" mine. In 1908 it became independent (it was owned by the Society of Mines and Sosnowiec Metallurgical Works) and was soon expanded. In 1913 the "Klimontów II" mine, also known as "Jadwiga", was opened. Both mines "Klimontów I" ("Władysław") and "Jadwiga" were flooded in 1933. During the occupation, the Germans launched them under the names "Bismarck I" and "Bismarck II". After the war, the Klimontów mine merged with the nearby mines, or occasionally operated independently. It does not currently exist.
After 1945 Klimontów was a community in the Będzin poviat, in 1954 it received the status of a housing estate, and in 1967 it was granted city rights. It became a part of Sosnowiec in 1975.
