Sosnowiec

Śródmieście district in my photos

Śródmieście - the central, large district of Sosnowiec, delimiting the very center of the city. The City Hall and many other important offices and institutions as well as organizations and entities serving tens of thousands of residents are located here. This is also where the cultural and social life is concentrated and the city's largest passenger transport hub is located. In recent years, as a result of the expansion of hypermarkets, the commercial role of Śródmieście has been relegated to the background, and its still unresolved problems include the lack of accommodation facilities, undeveloped attractive parts of the area and pathological phenomena among residents, affecting the safety of this district, still full of contrasts.
It meets Pogoń from the north, then borders from the north-east with Sielec (along the Czarna Przemsza River), from the south-east with Dębowa Góra, from the south with parts of Katowice and Mysłowice (with which the border is marked by the Brynica River), and from the west with Stary Sosnowiec along the track of the historic Warsaw-Vienna Railway with the Sosnowiec Główny station, the opening of which was the direct cause of the then dynamic development of the city (then the largest village in Europe). On the southern part, however, there is another historical route of the Iwangorodzko-Dąbrowska Railway with the South Sosnowiec station, which is now declining in terms of transport importance in the Silesian Voivodeship, and which also contributed to the development, especially of the present Sosnowiec districts.
