Ostra Górka district in my photos

Ostra Górka - originally it was a small settlement of tar makers. Situated on the western side of the Czarna Przemsza River, it adjoined the Radocha forest. The beginnings of the village date back to the end of the 18th century. It was established on Pogoń land and together with Pogoń it belonged to the Gzichów commune. The name "Ostra Górka" is almost out of use. The former district is now associated with a part of the city center.
Already in the first half of the 19th century, Ostra Górka was transformed into an industrial settlement. In the years 1815 - 1817 an open-cast mine called "Ostra Górka" operated here (near the junction of Biała Street and Ostrogórska Street), which, however, did not develop a wider production. Stalled for a dozen or so years, it resumed mining in 1838 under the name "Gzichów" (it was owned by the Siemieński and then MycieIski family). In 1863, the closed mine was purchased again by Gustaw von Kramst together with the attentiveness of Gzichów, who opened it in 1867. It was operated as the "Zygmunt" mine until 1877.
In the vicinity of the mine, along Pańska and Biała Streets, an estate with chaotic buildings was created. At the end of the 19th century, it had about 1,500 inhabitants. The last village leader was a certain Kawka. Ostra Górka grew to the north and merged with the village of Kuźnica. In 1902, it became part of the city. The name of the main street of the district - Ostrogórska - reminds us of the settlement.
After World War II, buildings in poor technical condition were gradually demolished. In half of 1963, the cornerstone for the construction of a cooperative housing estate was ceremonially laid. New multi-story blocks were built in the 1960s and 1970s. At the same time, shops and other service facilities were opened. One of the largest investments in this area of the city was the construction in 1964 at ul. Zegadłowicz in the building of the hospital No. 1 and in 1975 the building of the Municipal Public Library. Currently, Ostra Górka belongs to Śródmieście.
