Just
after I got the Data Center Administrator additional function, I had to
prepare the documentation of the whole Data Center. In order to create it, I
decided to use the very popular WIKI technology. I copied the software from
the WIKI server and installed it on the local server being managed by the
LINUX operating system, with PHP and MySQL software installed - these two are
needed to use Wiki.
On
the left side in the main window of the documentation I created the table of
contents, that is a list of links to each part of the documentation - Main
Side, Rooms, Energy, Air-conditioning System, Fire Protection System, Access
Control, WAN Structure, Procedures, Engineers, Gallery, Events.
After the documentation is loaded into the browser, the Main Site is
visible. Here I placed the general description of the Data Center in
Warszawa, necessity and ways of hardware monitoring, I mentioned the types of
relations between customers and the Data Center, and I indicated projects,
which are managed by engineers in the Data Center. In the top left-hand
corner I placed the logo of COMARCH Co., which I received from the Marketing
Department as a "*.png" object. On the Main Site I also placed a
picture of the main glass door with a COMARCH DATA Center white caption - the
door to the Data Center.
On
the ROOMS Site I placed a description of all 4 rooms in the Data
Center - in order to do that I had to take a scheme of the building from the
Main Building Administrator, which I scanned and then prepared for the
WikiWCDC documentation using a grafical application. From this scheme I also
obtained the detailed information about the dimensions of all rooms. I took
pictures of all rooms and placed them in so created documentation.
On
the ENERGY Site I placed the documentation prepared by the firm which
created the electrical installations in the Data Center, together with the
diagrams, results of the insulation measurement, etc. I had to get this
electrical documentation from Krakow, because it was missing in COMARCH Co.
in Warszawa. In this part of the WikiWCDC I also placed the documentation of
the current aggregate, which I had to get from the firm that services this
unit, because it was missing in the COMARCH Co.
On the AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEM Site I placed a description of this
system installed in the Data Center, including the technical parameters and
manuals, which I had to get from the producer, because the firm that
installed this system delivered the documentation for a different model of
appliances.
On the ACCESS CONTROL Site I described in detail all the ways which
are used to protect the Data Center, starting from the guard workers, through
the monitoring system, the alarm system, the anti-burglar door, the hand
geometry scanner, finishing with safes. In order to do that, I took many
pictures, even of the worker at the reception desk.
I
left the creation of the WAN STRUCTURE Site for my colleague who dealt
with the network.
On the PROCEDURES Site I placed all the procedures of behaving in
everyday situations and in emergency ones.
On
the ENGINEERS Site I presented each worker of the Data Center - both
cost Centers. I also took pictures of my colleagues and placed them on the WikiWCDC.
I
placed all pictures of the Data Center in groups sorting by subjects on the GALLERY
Site.
On the last EVENTS Site I placed all important events of the Data
Center including historical ones - all signed contracts with performers,
protocols of finished works, delivery notes, etc. In order to do that, I had
to look for these documents in many places - unfortunately I couldn't find
the documents from the beginings of the Data Center even in the COMARCH Head
Office in Krakow.
Since I got this additional function, I corrected a lot of things, which were
described just on the EVENTS Site, e.g. I organized the wall painting in the
hall of the Data Center, because during the Data Center modernisation in 2006
they did not do that; I organized the racks purchase for the laboratory -
simply in order to be able to move in this room; I ordered and placed a shelf
in the safe, where there was "creative mess"; I organized VGA
cables for each row of the racks, because earlier there was only one cable,
which was manually used for the server that just needed the operator's
reaction from the console; I covered the cables going from the ceiling to the
rack, which were left visible after the modernization; I placed on the wall
the manual of the Fire Protection System Control, because during the
modernisation of the Data Center nobody knew how to operate this system; I
organized the exchange of a few battery cells with higher resistance in the
UPSes; I filled up the fuel in the aggregate; I organized the filling up of the
gas in the Fire Protection System to make this system efficient in 100% -
these all in order to keep the projects alive.
